Did you know that August is National Black Business Month?
National Black Business Month was founded sixteen years ago, in August 2004 to “drive the policy agenda affecting the 2.6 million African-American businesses,” by John William Templeton and Frederick E. Jordan.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are approximately 2 million black-owned businesses across the country accounting for about 30 percent of all minority-owned businesses.
The majority of black-owned businesses are in the service industry: health care, social assistance, personal and laundry services, as well as other categories including arts & culture, advertising firms, auto dealerships, consulting services, restaurants, barbershops, beauty salons, and many, many more.

During the month of August, I encourage you to learn more about the services provided by your local black-owned businesses and to support them as you would all local businesses.
