Tamiami Park Opens Superhero Garden Autism Playground!

April 30, 2019

On April 26, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade Commissioner Joe A. Martinez, District 11, and Miami-Dade Parks opened a new 4,220-square-foot sensory playground and garden, specifically designed for children with autism located next to the pool at Tamiami Park, 11201 SW 24 Street, Miami, FL.

The playground equipment features an ADA-accessible “Whirl,” a “Spinami” motion play spinner, an “Adventure Crawl Tube,” a “Cozy Cocoon” play berm, sensory play panels, and engineered wood fiber safety surfacing.  The site contains assorted native trees and plants, a five-foot-high fence with a privacy screen, park benches, and an ADA-accessible walkway.

The playground is the first of its kind for the Miami-Dade Parks system and the state of Florida.  It is located just steps away from the Miracle League baseball field, and in close proximity to the community center, where there is a vibrant program for children with disabilities. This playground is just another example of the growing recreational services provided to people with disabilities in Miami-Dade County.
