A Weekend at Club Med Sandpiper Bay

By Cynthia Yapp, Publisher June 19, 2018

For Father’s Day weekend we headed up the road to Club Med Sandpiper Bay, the only all-inclusive Club Med resort in the US! Club Med Sandpiper Bay is only a two-hour drive from Miami, so we were ready to jump right in and enjoy ourselves as soon as we got there.

One of the great things about our stay was that there was no need for me to enter event planning mode. I didn’t have to figure out where or when we were going to eat and I didn’t have to plan what we were going to do. The only thing I had to do was enjoy myself along with the rest of the family! Meals, activities, or no activities (my favorite) were all taken care of by Club Med Sandpiper Bay. I really, really like this all-inclusive concept!

Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port Lucie has something for everyone. There are lots of sporting activities including sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skiing, mini golf and of course, there’s the trapeze. For the sports enthusiast, there's golf, tennis, basketball and beach volleyball. There’s also a Kidz Village that offers activities such as circus school, sports, arts & crafts, swimming and more for ages 4 months to 17 years. Daily programs for the Mini Club Med - Geckos (4-5), Sharks (6-7) and Gators (8-10) are posted directly on the wall of the Kidz Village so parents know exactly where the kids are at all times. Particular favorites with the Mini Club Med Geckos, Sharks and Gators are the Circus school, the splash park...

...and especially the trapeze where the kids seem to just float with abandon in the air.

Staying at Club Med allows the family to spend quality time together, but there’s still plenty of opportunities for parents to have some alone time.  We spent quite a few hours lounging under the cabana watching kayakers and paddle boarders drift by while we enjoyed the afternoon breeze and a glass or two of mojitos and wine. We also did a round of mini golf in the afternoon and walked along the Port St. Lucie River after dusk, all without any kids in sight!

There are shows and other activities for the entire family to do at night either at the theater or at Slice Lounge. Friday night, among other things, there was a talent show for both kids and adults in Slice Lounge, and Saturday night we enjoyed the standing room only, fast paced, high flying performance of "Out of Time" at the theater.

When I'm on vacation I always like to try different foods, but the rest of my family tend to be picky about what they eat and sticking to what they know. However, at Club Med Sandpiper Bay there's a wide variety of dishes to choose from that would satisfy the pickiest of eaters. The Marketplace offers international dishes, including Asian, Italian, Mexican and American cuisine. The Riverside Grill & BBQ is a table service restaurant open for late breakfast, late lunch, and late dinner. You can also reserve a table at The Riverside to enjoy a unique selection of local specialties, gourmet dishes from the lobster menu and premium wines, at an additional cost.  Snacks are also available almost 24 hours daily to satisfy the late-night munchies.

Our stay at Club Med Sandpiper Bay although too short was perfect. We had an amazing time and will definitely return for a longer stay.
